This thoroughfare is one of the oldest streets in Paris. Originally, it was a means of connection between Rome and Lutetia (Paris) via Lyon, and its historical significance is felt with every step. The entire area is well known for its open-air markets, namely Rue Daubenton, Place Maubert, and Place Monge, each of which delivers an intimate interaction with a kind of Parisian lifestyle not likely to be found anywhere else. Rue Mouffetard has something for everyone -- limitless shopping, numerous cafes, old-world architecture, sumptuous restaurants, and simple areas of dispersed greenery. All, in their own way, make this street one of Paris' main attractions for locals and tourists alike. Keep your eye out for original shop signs dating back as far as the 16th century.
