Chelsea was once a low-income neighborhood, but in recent years it has become a focal point for artists and galleries, as well as Manhattan’s gay mecca. The art scene has really blossomed, all thanks to the conversion of many garages and warehouses between Tenth and Twelfth Avenues into a ‘gallery row’ for art lovers. The Jack Shainman Gallery is a fine spot and walking the area is a great way to spend an ‘artsy’ afternoon.
